I tried my share of FTP clients in my day.. form the lows of using Windows Explorer (not terribly awful) to the euphoria of clients like FileZilla and then realizing I found gold with Transmit. I will never use another client (I know, I know...you should never say never)...

“You need Transmit, the #1 Mac OS X FTP client.¹Now, in Transmit 4, we took everything good about Transmit, and added a dollop of unbelievably great.”

I’m going to keep this short and sweet and strictly emotional…and partially technical…since I know that’s what you guys care about.

So what makes it so awesome you say? Well, everything…It allows me to simultaneously browse servers, dragging and dropping files at lightning-speed from one to another. It gives me the ability to mount the servers to my Macbook Pro…giving them the functionalities of a system folder. I can live-edit hidden files and folders, including changing permissions of full directories and no I’m not naïve, I know you can do this on other clients but it just ain’t the same! I can sync my content delivery providers and a huge plus right out the box is that it imports bookmarks from most other common FTP clients.

The biggest advantage Transmit offers me is speed and ease-of-use. I’ve quickly outgrown the other clients (rhymes with dybercuck and zilefilla). This is a program that I can seriously guarantee to any web designer.

——

Check out their website here!

This article was written by Stephanie Wagner, a freelance author writing about logo design, small business and marketing. She is not associated with Logo Mojo but can recommend them for quality medical logos.

If you are in the medical field you will know the importance of a good medical logo. Most of your big hospitals have great looking logos and even smaller doctor or medical practices realize the many benefits to be had from good logos.

Why have a logo?

Quite simply logos can help to earn more business. In the case of a medical logo they often become a symbol of trust to many people and help them make sure that they are getting the right care. Medical logos are not just limited to those strictly in a doctor patient setting. Medical logos can be placed on businesses that sell medical equipment, offer therapy, and offer mental health services. These logos can be added to the website, to the business cards, and to the signage both inside and outside of the office. Making sure that you have a good medical logo therefore is important and making sure that it stands out above the rest is equally as important.

What should be on your medical logos?

There are many medical symbols out there that can be placed onto medical logos. Things like the national sign for medical care, a cross, heart, wheelchair, needles, band aid, as well as even an image of someone caring for someone else can all be on a medical logo. Depending on what you do, you will need to consider many different designs and it is vital you take your time and make sure that you find one that will help you get more business. Making sure that your logo is unique and eye-catching will help you stand out from the rest of the medical field and your competition.

Creating good medical logos relies on applying a good deal of psychology to the overall design. The choice of colors, symbols and layout will all have an impact on how potential customers view your business. Remember medical logos need to instill a sense of trust, well being and experience – people don’t just trust their healthcare to anyone and your logo will play an important part in their decision making process.

Choosing a logo designer:

There are many ways to get your medical logos complete. You can hire a design company in your local area to complete your design for you and have them completely design the logo to your standards and even have them upload it onto your website. However if you do not have a design company in your local area you can turn to the online world where there are vast amounts of logo designers who would be more than willing to make sure that your medical logos are done correctly.

However, whether you choose a business in your local area or one online, you will need to make sure that you check each one out before fully deciding on who to go with. Make sure you look at portfolios and ask to read reviews. Be sure you get to know them well before you commit to purchase.

Following up the availability of Adobe Photoshop CS6 beta download, Adobe has released a new sneak peek video of Illustrator CS6. Of particular interest to me is that Illustrator sports the new darker interface to match Photoshop. I truly hope this optional feature will also be found in InDesign CS6 as well.

Solves the annoying problem of copying a file to an external disk and then having to delete the original.. when all you want to do is move the stinking thing. You're welcome.

If you have multiple hard drives set up on your Mac, you may find yourself wishing to move a file (or files) from one drive to another. This generally requires you to copy the file(s) by dragging it to the destination drive, then going back and deleting the file from its original location so you don’t have duplicate copies on your hard drives. Rather than doing that, try holding down the Command key while dragging it to the new location. Your file will be “moved” instead of copied, releasing you from the need to go back and delete the original.

Have you ever had to design something for a client and they had an example treatment in a pdf file? Can't figure out what font is used in the file? Well, here's how you do it...

Here’s how you extract font data from a pdf…

Open your PDF file.

Go to TOOLS → ADVANCED EDITING and select the “TOUCHUP TEXT TOOL“.

Click on the text that you wish to extract the typeface from and a bounding box should appear.

Highlight a portion of the text and right click to bring up a menu. Select “PROPERTIES“.

Click the text tab and you should see information on the font there.

Important: You need to have Adobe Acrobat Professional installed in order to use the advanced editing functionality.

I recently visited my sister, who had done some searching, and had come across a single from my Dad's old funk band Symbol 8 called "I Thought You Wanted To Dance".

In the song my pops freaks a pretty smooth second verse and adlibs smooth as the Motown sound. FYI, Symbol 8 was featured on American Band Stand in the late 70′s while signed to a label called Janus Records.. Unfortunately the label fizzled and the group was forced to disband. Big ups to Charlie Adams on this one though!

My dad was the lead singer for Symbol 8 and played several instruments, including the flute and sax. When my sister played the track, I could hardly recognize the soulful voice singing on the beginning of the second verse. It sounded like something straight off of a Motown greatest hits album.

It is bittersweet to think that things didn’t turn out big for the group but then again I would have never been here (as in never been born)… and now that wouldn’t be cool would it?

So I'm out of town and I get that hankering for some good ole McDonald's and I can't tell you how disappointed I was.

So, a while ago (4 or 5 years ago) I went to McDonald’s on one of my college-daze fast food cravings and ordered my quick fix meal of two cheeseburgers, a Dr. P, and medium fries. I was just about to order my 2 apple pies when I saw it… They not only had apple pies but they also had cherry pies! I had to try them, right? So, naturally I ordered 2 (because you have to)…

I kid you not, these things were so buttery and tasty sweet that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t gotten on these things sooner. I tried ordering them again just a few weeks later at a local McAdees and was unpleasantly surprised to find out that they not only didn’t have cherry pies but that they weren’t a guaranteed fixture at any McDonald’s.

In my disappoint to learn this disheartening news I sadly gave up my quest for the elusive cherry pie and went back to ordering the apple pies I had in the past. Like anything you don’t have in a while, you learn to forget just how good it can be. Until…

On a whim, while out of town, I asked the cashier what other pies they had and, as if he were saying it slow motion and in a very dramatic fashion, he responded “CHERRY PIES”… WHAAAT?? Did he say churry pys?! I was excited and of course ordered 2 (because you have to).

As you can see in the image above, the experience was a little less than nostalgic. The pie was crusty, dry, and looked like it had been sitting in the warmer for days. Where they do that at?

Anyways, I was so hurt by this sub-par reenactment of my awesome experience just a few years prior, I had to dictate my disgust.

On a lighter less disappointed note, I leave you with an image of me enjoying a more exciting moment in my McAdees nostalgia… I didn’t know they still did these!

Sometimes you just have "one of those days" and today started out like one of those. Sometimes you just feel like you're running on E and some days you actually are.

So me being the forgetful person that I am at times, forgot and left my wallet on my desk at work (after eating at one of the most decadent lunch spots on the earth… Cook Out). Of course I didn’t realize I didn’t have it until I jumped in my whip and headed out on my way to work this morning.

On one of my regular forgetful days it wouldn’t have been much of a problem because I would have just gone to work and grabbed the wallet… but… on this particular day I needed gas and I needed it BAD. The gauge hand was already below the last notch.

After combing through everything I had worn on the day before I came to the forlorn conclusion that my wallet was not at home but was inconveniently on my desk at work, 40 miles away. This realization would be the start of my adventure.

I hopped in my car and cranked it. The gas light immediately lit up with its obnoxious orange glow of despair reprimanding me, as if to say, “YOU STUPID IRRESPONSIBLE BOY!”

Being the man that I am, ignored it’s antagonistic glow and kept my speed at a steady yet respectful 75 mph.. coasting the hills and trying to avoid slow-movers, which by the way are a traffic hazard (but that’s another story).

I called my boy Nico at work and asked him to confirm my wallet’s location. He did. It was on my desk as I had concluded. I then alerted him of my situation and asked for his assistance in being ready to possibly either meet me at the gas station with the wallet or pick me up off of I-40.

I continued on my journey keeping my eyes both glued to the road and the gas gauge. This stressful disposition that I was in called for the appropriate mood music. Jazz. I threw on the jazz music and scatted and be-bopped so I could forget the gauge but the stupid orange light kept strobing in my peripherals.

Long story short I made it to work (frazzled as I was), got gas, and was met by a stack of projects of which I totally owned… I even had time to write this blog before leaving the office.

Moral: God is good, faith is an amazing tool, and good friends are hard to find. Salutations readers…
