About Dexter Adams
Musical Background
I needed to broaden my horizons. I needed an outlet for all of the ideas I had in my head. I needed something with more of a sequencing capacity to hold the complex compositions that my brain was waiting to scream out. Then it came… the PC. I had a geeky friend… well not geeky just smart… whose father built computers for his company. From this my friend learned to build them with the parts his dad didn’t use. My mom saved up some money and had him build me one with the capabilities and software that I needed. At first I was extremely overwhelmed by the software. There were so many new terminologies, and so many new features that my old Yamaha just didn’t have. From there I began the long but rewarding process of making CRAP and more CRAP until little by little the crap stopped smelling (or sounding rather) like crap. I taught myself how to understand compression, and frequencies, and equalizing, and cross-fading, and expanding, and doubling, and the list goes on. I learned all this in the course of the 7 or 8 plus years that I’ve worked with producing. Now I’d like to say I’ve gotten close to a sound that’s my own and moderately listenable. Design is the Name of the GameMy obsession with electronics didn’t start and end with music though. I began my tinkering when I received my first set of Legos. I would build what was on the box and then I would take everything apart and build something out of all of the pieces combined. This thirst for re-creation evolved into a desire to see how things worked. I took that approach (taking things apart and building them back up) into other genres as well. Computers. After watching by buddy tinker with computers, I got the bug and starting tinkering with my own. After I built a machine I could say was my own, I started messing with graphic design. I had never done much creative design on a computer but I was really interested in the computer’s limitless potential in that area. After first figuring out Photoshop and Googling my brains out on tutorials I “systematically” progressed through the various other programs in the Creative Suite bundle; Indesgn, Illustrator, Lightroom, Flash, and finally Dreamweaver. When I discovered HTML, CSS, and what they meant to the web, I was hooked for life. In my mind, I could build anything… Or at least that’s what I felt/feel. I thank Jesus for where I am in my life right now in my life and can only anticipate a steady progression from here on out. God has placed in me an innate desire for learning and a systematic approach for self-education. As long as my curiosity and creativity burn, so will my output. Contact Dexter Adams

I have always been enamored by music. My dad was and is a extremely talented saxophonist and flutist and my mother is a song writer and singer. It wasn’t a coincidence that I picked up on the intricacies of music early. My ear for quality grew as I grew. My infatuation with music became this monster that monopolized my free time. I learned to play songs, then I learned to record them into the glitchy 8 track sequencer on my old school Yamaha keyboard. I was a drummer in my church and for 14 years have been playing. I merged what I knew about tempo and rhythm and melody and created a base for my production curiosity.
